Captured in time

I find so much joy looking back at memories captured in time through photos. Each photo takes me back and I can tell you exactly what I was thinking and feeling in any photo taken. Sounds crazy I know, but it is the honest truth. I regret not taking so many photos with my mom when she was alive, but I am also grateful that she loved the camera and has so many photos taken of herself. I can tell Hudson about his Ma one day, and also share the memories and moments with him captured in time. When Amy from Photography to remember   and I initially talked about a family photo shoot, we both decided on a sunset beach theme. My husband, does not like the camera at all and I often have to bribe him with coffee and toast in bed on weekends. So, when Amy suggested the car museum, I knew that he was going to be blown away. Win-win situation right there!

The Make up

Donna Taylor from Donna Taylor Make up   and I have known each other for a few years now. She did my make up and hair for our engagement shoot; wedding; maternity shoot and newborn shoot. Donna is probably the only person I trust to do my make up. She blows me away every single time. For this shoot, I told her that I wanted to look like a Grecian Goddess, and she delivered.

The venue

The Wijnland Auto Museum displays South Africa’s largest collection of classic and vintage automobiles. It is also ideally positioned at the ‘gateway’ to the winelands and is a must do if you are anywhere near Stellenbosch. Surrounded by vintage cars was awesome, but to actually get into an SAL airplane was the ultimate.

All about Hudson

We are truly blessed with such a happy boy. As he grows up I see more and more of my mom in him. I am reminded every day, that we should be thankful for the little and smallest things in life. I am grateful and truly honored to call you my son. When I saw this vest from By Roeline and Co I bought it immediately and since they did not have bloomers for boys, one was made for Hudson. “We rise by lifting others” is definitely one of the values that we will impart onto him.

Family Values

Daniel and I both decided that we will have a birthday party for Hudson every three years. We both feel that children these days, forget what birthdays are all about. It is about being grateful for adding another year and writing another chapter in your book of life. For his second birthday, we will take him to Tulbagh Children’s home, where he will donate some of his toys and celebrate his birthday with the kids.  A place that was near to my grandmother’s heart when she was alive, my dad continued the tradition of visiting the kids after my gran passed away and together with my mom visited the kids every month and took them some treats. When my mom passed away, we gave the children’s home a monetary donation in honor of my mom’s memory and to this day, the caregivers still shed a tear when my dad arrives without my mom.

  1. WOW!!! This is beautiful, not only the photos but you as a mom and how you are raising Hudson with good values.
I love the idea of what you are going to do for his 2nd birthday and I know your mom will be proud too that you are carrying on with a family tradition XXX

    1. Aww Amy, this week has been tough, I have been struggling with a tummy bug and it has completely exhausted me. Thank you so much that you took the time to read my blog post. I honestly hope that it will encourage other parents to do the same. I feel it is so important that we always realise that we are raising tomorrow’s leaders, someone’s wife or husband and someones father or mother. Thank you for your kind words about my mom as well. I am missing her terribly, especially now as Hudson truly becomes a little person with a personality. Much love to you and your loved ones. x
